Join our Association in One of Two Ways:

1. Become a Certified Master Gardener Volunteer

Master Gardeners are dedicated horticultural volunteers providing education and service to their community. Through training, based on unbiased university research, they have the tools in their toolbelt necessary to help their community.


Step One: Choose Online or In-person Classes

Online program details are on the University of Wisconsin Extension (UW) website. UW offers a limited number of scholarships for the program. 2024 classes to be announced.

The In-person program, Backyard Gardener, details are on the University of Wisconsin Extension website. The 14-week course is held at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh (UWO) Fox Valley in Menasha, WI.


Step Two: Complete Onboarding Online & Complete the Entrance Exam

This required second course runs from February 19 through March 31, 2024. Details and sign up for registration HERE.


SCHOLARSHIPS • Outagamie County Master Gardener Association offers a limited number of scholarships also. Complete the OCMGA Scholarship App.

Upon completing the full Master Gardener Program, please join the Outagamie County Master Gardeners Association. Become a part of a great group of kindred spirits. Many opportunities to get your needed volunteer and education hours to maintain your Master Gardener status. Annual Recertification

Recertification is required annually to remain a Master Gardener Volunteer in good standing. To be recertified, you must obtain 10 hours of continuing education and provide 24 hours of volunteer service. Hours are reported electronically on the UW website: Online Reporting System and due December 31st of each year.


2. Become an Associate Member

Associates – Persons who agree to follow standards set for Wisconsin Extension
Master Gardeners, but are not certified, may become members of OCMGA with the following guidelines:

  • Must not represent themselves as a Wisconsin Extension Master Gardener until they become a Wisconsin Extension Master Gardener in good standing.
  • Not eligible to be members of WIMGA (Wisconsin Master Gardener Association)
  • Expected to participate in volunteer activities and education and can participate on committees, including in leadership roles.
  • Can vote on OCMGA items
