The OCMGA typically sponsors a summer trip to visit botanical gardens and nurseries. Why not coordinate one of the trips this year? It’s a great way to accumulate service hours. Please contact Meg Hunsader if you are interested in volunteering or learning more about it.
The Emergency Shelter of the Fox Valley attributes its success of its annual fundraiser, the Garden Walk, in large part to the involvement of several Master Gardener volunteers, and we wish to express our sincere appreciation for your help every year.
Encouraged by the generous support we already receive from the Master Gardeners , we would like to make a request that the Master Gardeners' Board of Directors consider starting a new partnership with the Emergency Shelter.
We have recently received a donation of materials and labor for custom curbing and decorative stone for improvements in the existing landscaping on our grounds. To enhance the new landscaping, we would greatly appreciate having a Master Gardener visit the Emergency Shelter on an annual basis in spring to consult with our staff on what kind of plantings should be done or replaced, if necessary. We believe we may be able to obtain donations of plants from Fox Valley Technical College 's program through Jim Beard , and we could recruit volunteers to do the actual work of planting the new plants.
The proposed partnership might also involve the Master Gardeners sharing any available information on any landscape companies or greenhouses who might be willing to donate or give discounts on plants or other landscaping supplies for the Emergency Shelter.
The Emergency Shelter of the Fox Valley wishes to project a clean and professional image to the community and we believe that beautifying our grounds will help us in this regard. MGVs interested in helping with this project can call the shelter at 920-734-9192.
